Introduction to Cunca Wulang Waterfall

Cunca Wulang Waterfall, located in Wersawa Village, Mbeliling, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, is a hidden gem on Flores Island. Often compared to the landscapes of Africa with its savanna and even Europe with its rivers and rocks, this stunning waterfall is a must-see destination.

Discover the Magic of Cunca Wulang Waterfall in Flores

The Cunca Wulang is about 30 kilometers to the east of Labuan Bajo, which can be reached in about an hour’s drive. This location has a clear river valley water flow and is surrounded by artistic rock formations, thus making this waterfall the Grand Canyon miniature found in Arizona, America.

In Indonesian, “cunca wulang” means “waterfall and moon”. This waterfall is located at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level making the atmosphere of this place very cool. At first glance, you will feel that you are in the “Grand Canyon” when arriving in this place because there is a river flow between the cliffs of large rocks. The waterfall is above the rocks and the waters come out through the gaps in the rocks.

This tourist spot is located approximately 30 kilometers from Labuan Bajo. To reach this waterfall, you need to spend approximately 1 hour crossing the beauty of Flores Island beyond measure. You can take public transport such as Trans Flores. Furthermore, visitors must also be careful because the road taken is quite winding and is often passed by large vehicles.

When you arrive in the Cekonobo area, you will be directed to the Wersawa Village where you will have to walk again approximately 4 kilometers to reach this hidden blue gem of Flores Island. Plus, you are obliged to hire a local travel guide to help you penetrate the dense forest. While trekking, the guide will also tell you about the culture of the surrounding community.

After struggling through a tiring journey, your effort will pay off with the beautiful natural scenery. You can swim or relax enjoying the beauty of the waterfall as you like. You can also jump from a four-meter-high rock to test adrenaline while feeling the freshness of the water.

If you want to see a heavy waterfall discharge, you can come to Cunca Wulang during the rainy season. But the color of the water will not be that turquoise as the rainwater tends to be turbid. And don’t forget to prepare enough food before leaving as there is rarely food and drink stalls around the location of the Cunca Wulang waterfall.
